On 28th June 2009, thanks to the funds received from the Volontari l’Accoglienza Association, the Butterfly Foundation non-profit organisation was able to inaugurate a new water well in the area of MAYRAZA (SEREWAT), woreda of Sasietsaedaemba, 40 km East of Adigrat town, Tigray Region, Ethiopia. The well was drilled and functions with a hand- operated pump. It is available to the inhabitants of the village of MAYRAZA, where 750 people are living.
The layer of drinking water was reached at a depth of 37 metres. The well was drilled to 40 metres deep and is enclosed by a fence. MAYRAZA is located in a particularly barren area, which is difficult to access and where the population live on subsistence farming.
