01Water
Water is the founding element of life, and in some parts of Ethiopia, people still struggle to access it daily. Since 2003, the Butterfly Foundation has funded and built over 300 water wells, mainly in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, securing clean water access for over 100,000 locals.
Primary beneficiaries of these interventions are women, who are traditionally responsible for providing water to their families and children, as they are most vulnerable to unclean water.
02Education
The second area of intervention is education. In some parts of the world, the opportunity to attend school is still considered a luxury. Building primary and secondary schools can make a difference in children’s lives by allowing them to build a better future for themselves and their communities. Butterfly Foundation has implemented over 30 Schools in Countries such as Nepal, Myanmar, Madagascar and Ethiopia, with the intent to promote the value of education beyond ideological, territorial, or religious barriers and to establish a learning culture in local communities.
03Health care
People in third-world countries often have to walk for days to access healthcare. Over the past 20 years, from 2004, Butterfly Foundation has supported several healthcare projects in Ethiopia. One of the most consistent interventions has been the upgrading of Mokonissa Healthcare centre, which assists 25,000 disadvantaged people living in the area, offering primary health care and assistance during childbirth. Right next to the hospital, a guesthouse is available for foreign doctors willing to train local staff. Several other projects have been completed in the Tigray Region. A dispensary has been duly completed and equipped on the island of Nosy Be, Madagascar, where health care conditions are poor.
