A well for drinking water was unveiled on 26th June 2009 in SEIDE, in the woreda of Irob, 35 km northeast of the centre of Adigrat, Tigray Region, Ethiopia, thanks to the funding secured by the parents of Paolo, who passed away at a very young age in Mazara del Vallo in Sicily, following a workplace accident.
The well, equipped with a hand pump, is 30 metres deep and in an area that is particularly barren and difficult to reach, where the population lives on subsistence farming. It provides a safe water supply to approximately 900 people who live in an area where rainfall is scarce and irregular, frequently jeopardising the harvests.
Rainfall was particularly low in 2009, causing very serious difficulties for the population of the whole area.”
